THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLIDER

 

 

Marvel’s newest show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is now streaming on Disney Plus.

Here are some general thoughts and partial recap of the first episode.

 

SPOILERS … DUH!

 

 

Episode 1

The episode kicks off Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) ironing a shirt and getting ready to attend an event.

Then a flashback to an action sequence with The Falcon going up against LAF criminal organization with MMA star George St-Pierre as Batroc.

If you remember from Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014) GSP played the character Georges Batroc. Most people would have forgotten that character by now. Batroc the leaper is the supervillain from the comics.

Side note: GSP is from Quebec but is playing a character that’s supposed to be from France. The accents don’t fit!

The fight inside the plane should have a lot more air, wind and turbulence as The Falcon kicks down the door while they’re in the AIR!

Falcon gets beat down by Batroc and then suddenly the group of bad guys suit up in WINGSUITS and jump out of the plane, while Falcon is still down.

In this action sequence we learn that The Falcon cannot fly faster than wingsuits! lol

After a chase through canyons, and a few exploding helicopters later, Falcon rescues the hostage, and Batroc escapes. Will GSP be back for more?

Side note: Red Wing Falcon’s trusty drone is pretty cool.

Falcon and his military sidekick Joaquin Torres are in a market drinking tea. This scene establishes the existence of a new group of criminals called the Flag Smashers who Torres follows on an app. Also what some people think Captain America Steve Rogers lives on the moon.

Falcon says he’s going to Washington and leaves it at that.

The next scene is present time. Sam has just retired the Captain America shield to Smithsonian Museum in Washington. Sam chats with James Rhodes War Machine played by Don Cheadle. Sam ponders if he did the right thing.

 

Next scene a flash back to somewhere in Russia, Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) attacks a hotel and kills people. The victims bad guys and a man trying to get to unlock the room to his hotel suite. Hail Hydra!

Present day.

Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes wakes up sleeping on the floor of his apartment.

Cut to Bucky Barnes sitting across from his Therapist a lonely man dealing with a lot of issues, and encouraged to be more social like a normal person. Bucky is making amends with his past.

He meets up with an elderly friend Yori for lunch at a sushi restaurant. The old man introduces Bucky to the waitress Leah and they end up hanging out after work.

Yori and Bucky are very old but Bucky doesn’t age! We learn as Winter Soldier Bucky killed Yori’s son in the flashback hotel scene.

Meanwhile Sam helps his sister in Louisiana try to get a loan to save the family business and not sell the boat. The guy at the bank just wants to take selfies, and denies them the loan for having no income. 5 Years of no income thanks to The Snap!

Meanwhile in Switzerland Joaquin Torres is following the group of Flag Smashers who are organizing through an app. They rob a bank and start a riot.

It’s interesting to see that superheroes also have normal lives. I think that’s good for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier to establish and explore. Having financial problems is relatable to many people!

Torres contacts Falcon, to tell him about the Flag Smashers.

The episode ends with a reveal of a NEW Captain America.
