For those who don’t remember. Thor aka Chris Hemsworth played a minor role as Captain Kirk’s father George Kirk in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot in 2009. He appears at the start of the movie, but unfortunately, dies, leaving James Tiberius Kirk to grow up as a rebellious fatherless teen.
Variety is reporting the next Star Trek feature film following Star Trek Beyond will star Chris Hemsworth, reprising his role as Captain Kirk’s dad.
This suggests a time-travel storyline where the two characters father and son, cross paths, with the two Kirks, saving the universe.
This is the fourth Star Trek reboot sequel, and the 14th Star Trek Feature film.
No release date has been announced. Possible 2018 is likely, unless Hollywood wants to age the actors a little longer for a 2019/2020 release? It would make sense to shoot the next Star Trek as soon as possible while the actors are still at their prime marketing time.
