Star Wars fans are a passionate bunch. They are truly the reason why Star Wars has been going strong for decades, earning the reputation of the ‘Forever Franchise’.

With the Force Awakens beating all domestic Box Office records, the next Star Wars films are highly anticipated.

Yuri Luiz, from San Paulo, Brazil recently started a petition on Change.org. It quickly earned over 8000 signatures, well on its way to exceeding 10k.

However, is all of this pointless? Would Disney really take action because fans want George Lucas back to direct the next Star Wars flick?

PETITION: George Lucas back to the Star Wars movies

In his interview with Charlie Rose, Lucas mentions that ‘he was working with a writer’ his ideas ‘story treatments/outlines ‘for the next Star Wars installments were turned down by Disney. The Mouse House really wants to start fresh ‘for the fans’ away from George Lucas, and his vision.

The idea of bringing him back, most likely would never happen from a corporate/ business /internal politics standpoint. Money talks, and J.J. Abrams has delivered the goods with Star Wars: The Force Awakens to date $770M In 3 Weeks, $1.591B Worldwide, China Tomorrow. What ever else Disney has planned for the franchise can’t be derailed by a fan petition. George Lucas lacks all control after selling to Disney.

Paying tribute to George Lucas, or having a cameo would be a good way to please fans.
