The official trailer to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant hit the internet just before Christmas 2016.

Hoping to distance itself from the mythology of the ‘Engineers’ and ‘The Space Jockey’ origin story featured heavily in Prometheus (2012), the trailer for Alien: Covenant immediately establishes the horror aspect of the film as a throwback to the original Alien (1979) movie.

It’s scary, violent, and oh so gross but very familiar. Fans will love the return to horror, but at a risk of losing some originality. Prometheus took a different approach to the Xenomorph universe but polarized audiences because it wasn’t ‘Alien’ enough. Alien: Covenant looks to make past wrongs, right.

Michael Fassbender returns as David (possibly appearing as more than one David, android designed by Weyland-Yutani), Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup join the crew.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters May 19 2017 to kick off the summer.
