We get a closer look at Scarlett Johansson as Matoko Kusanagi in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Ghost In the Shell, a Japanese cyberpunk epic that first appeared in 1989 in Japanese manga form.
Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell has gone on to become a massive pop-culture franchise, comics, anime, and movies inspiring artists, filmmakers for it’s visuals and thought-provoking story, philosophy. If Paramount Pictures does a good job, we’ll be seeing more.
Scarlett Johansson is not Japanese, which is whitewashing and Hollywood is not willing to take finanacial risks with Asian actors in lead roles.
