MOVIES | BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN THE LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT FRANK MILLER
Back in the 90s, Batman: The Animated Series, launched the Bat-franchise in a new direction for television with it’s storytelling, and noir animation design.
Thanks to the critical impact Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, and ‘Batman Year One’, the animation established itself on the darker interpretation of Batman.
The Animated Series had a successful run, and spawned The New Adventures of Batman, Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated series and others. For DC Comics, their animated superheroes were a major hit with theatrical and direct-video movies.
In one episode of The New Adventures of Batman, called ‘Legends of the Dark Knight’ (1998), we get to see Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ in animated glory for the very first time. The style was unique, daring for television with sharp angular style. Legends of the Dark Knight Episode was named after the comic Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight (1989).
The Dark Knight Returns got a fully animated treatment in 2012, with a direct to video movie.
With Batman v Superman teasing fans with the latest teaser trailer, this original animated short still holds up today!
