GREMLINS ARE BACK!

Mountain Dew’s latest ad features Gremlins. Okay, well maybe not gremlins, but Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) and Gizmo from the Gremlins movies are all grown up just hanging out watching TV.

For those unfamiliar with Gizmo, the cute, funny and animatronic character was an instant favorite from the 1984 movie Gremlins. Gremlins was a comedy horror film from Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment. The style of sci-fi horror comedy similar to E.T., Goonies, Creepshow, or Tales from the Crypt.

Howie Mandel was the original voice of Gizmo back in the day.

Gizmo is a mogwai (Cantonese for devil) a creature from folklore. While Gizmo is innocent, and baby-like, when a mogwai is exposed to water it multiplies and when fed after midnight they become gremlins!

Gremlins are are creatures from folklore that are mischievous and causes problems.

Sorry Grogu but Gizmo is the original Baby Yoda!

In the Mountain Dew spot Gizmo takes a big chug of MTN DEW ZERO SUGAR, and no surprise, mogwai starts to multiply. This is a nice way to reintroduce these 80s characters to a new generation of soda drinkers. The Gremlins revival tour has begun.

An animated Gremlins series is in development at WarnerMedia called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
