Documentaries about epic feature films that were abandoned in the early stages seems to be a tread these days. Like Jodorowsky’s Dune, ‘The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened?’ is another one of those ‘What if?’ movies that reconstructs for the viewer the vision of the filmmakers from storyboards, test footage, and concept art.

Featuring interviews with Tim Burton, Kevin Smith, and many others who were attached to the Superman Lives production of 1996.  Posing the questions what happened to Superman Lives? What went wrong?

Jon Schnepp takes us back to an innocent time when superhero films were still special, and met with great anticipation. Unlike 2014, when we’re bombarded with superhero films and fans have come to expect comicbook adaptations year after year.

The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened? is a fan funded production that is currently looking for completion funds.
