Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is a new animated series coming to HBO Max.

It was recently announced that Ming-Na has been added to the voice over cast. In addition to Ming-Na, BD Wong, and Matthew Rhys are also joining the comedy fantasy series.

The series follows “the adventures of Sam Wing in his youth and Gizmo the Mogwai in China.”

Mr. Wing was the original owner of Gizmo in the Gremlins movie. Mr. Wing was very old at the time of the movie. The Secrets of the Mogwai takes place in 1920s Shanghai, East China when Mr. Wing was 10 years old.

For those unfamiliar with Gizmo, the cute, funny and animatronic character was an instant favorite from the 1984 movie Gremlins. Gremlins was a comedy horror film from Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment. The style of sci-fi horror comedy similar to E.T., Goonies, Creepshow, or Tales from the Crypt.

Howie Mandel was the original voice of Gizmo back in the day.

Gizmo is a mogwai (Cantonese for devil) a creature from folklore. While Gizmo is innocent, and baby-like, when a mogwai is exposed to water it multiplies and when fed after midnight they become gremlins!

Gremlins are are creatures from folklore that are mischievous and causes problems.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai has been renewed for a second season.
